The Artist's Way

My brother introduced me to The Artist's Way several years ago. I bought the book and read it, but I've never actually done the program. I was reading Stephanie's blog a few days ago, and she mentioned that there was a new blog forming that would be exploring the book together. I joined, thinking that this was a good chance for me to commit to going through the book and doing most of the exercises.... as much as I can do with a 4-month-old who now refuses to nap.

They will be starting the program soon. Check it out: The Artist's Way Blog

Mama's Got a Brand New Bag

I finally had a chance to make something for myself last week. I had been doing so much sewing for gifts that I never got around to making myself a fall or winter bag. Here it is, though. I made the Pleated Beauty Bag from Bend-the-Rules Sewing. It came together in two evenings. I used some linen for the main part of the bag and a red and blue cotton for the pleats. Speaking of the linen... my mother-in-law's friend's mom (got it?) recently moved to a retirement home. This woman is no longer sewing, but there was tons of sewing stuff in her house. I ended up with two huge bags of fabric, a bag of buttons, and another bag of thread, needles, and other notions. Sorry for this crappy photo... we're having lots of cloudy days.

I Heart FreeCycle!

Where have I been? FreeCycle is so cool! For those of you (like me, until recently) who don't know about it, FreeCycle is a network dedicated to recycling stuff you no longer need. You can either post things you have to get rid of or things you're looking for. We've already found good homes for two VCRs, a dorm fridge, and a bunch of Christmas decorations (stuff we would have otherwise just let sit in our garage). Go to FreeCycle.org and look up your local network.
